Christopher Buecheler ~ Blood That Bonds ~ Review

This is another author I found through twitter. Have you heard of Christopher Buecheler?

The Blood That Bonds

Blurb ~

Two is trapped: hooked on heroin and forced to sell her body to feed the addiction. Her vampire lover Theroen can lift her from this dark life, but his plans conflict with those of the dangerous elder Abraham, to whom he is bonded by both blood and a long-held promise. Two enters a world of darkness, violence, and despair. She must fight for freedom, both for herself and for those she loves

Review ~

The Blood That Bonds – Part 1 of the II AM Trilogy is not your typical vampire novel. You are introduced to races of vampires with different abilities and practices, which was something new to me. An interesting spin was that a fledgling vampire could turn back into a human if they go without blood from their master.
Two (not a typo, that’s the female lead character’s name) is a prostitute; a slave to her pimp, Darren, as well as heroin. Theroen, a vampire, is her “client” for the night. This unordinary night at work for Two allows her to enjoy being with a “man;” at times in comfortable silence, sharing a good meal and taking a ride in his fast car which is a far cry from her usual cyclic life of turning tricks to get her fix. Little did she know his intentions were to turn her that night – This is a very dangerous choice for Theroen as his master, Abraham, must approve of this turning and let’s just say he is a controlling and devious vamp whose scruples hover somewhere between malicious and insane. Due to the turning, Two is able to kick her heroin addiction and finds herself among a new family consisting of Theroen, Melissa and her alter personality, Missy, as well as the wild and crazed Tori; but, this family is not destined for a happily ever after … Abraham has other plans for each of his children.
The one hurdle I thought I would be able to get over was the lead female’s name … Two … The use of a number for someone’s name got somewhat confusing when reading … my mind just didn’t want to see it as a name rather than a number—leading me to re-read sentences. I was left wondering through about three-quarters of the book why Two was chosen by Thoeren; why was she so special? This was a question that continued to gnaw at me, something I wanted to know much earlier on … and the ending was not to be expected, not necessarily the typical happily ever after. This was an okay read that offered creative twists and plots that kept the book moving at an even pace.

If you want more of Christopher's vamps take a look at he newest release~

Blood Hunt (released Sept. 1, 2011)

Blood HuntHe killed her lover, and for that crime and many others, Two Majors cut off the vampire Abraham's head, reduced his remains to ashes, and scattered them to the winds. Now each night she wanders New York, freed from the chains of heroin addiction but longing still for Theroen's kiss, the taste of blood on his lips, the echo of his thoughts in her ears. There are other vampires out there; she knows it, and so she hunts.

Tori Perrault spent a dozen years living in the woods, stalking her prey in the dark and killing without mercy. Now, she too has returned to humanity, and struggles to come to terms with all that has happened. Her parents' love smothers her and life seems empty. She spends her nights in the bottle, and in the company of strange men. She doesn't know that she is watched, until the fragile life she has rebuilt is torn from her and she is dropped suddenly into a world she never knew existed.

Rhes Thompson and Sarah Taylor have never met a vampire, and never want to. All they want is to help their friend Two, who falls further away from them with each passing day. They have all but given up when they are thrust into a world of madness, death, and vampire politics beyond their understanding. They must abandon their concern for Two, and worry instead about saving their own lives.
Blood Hunt is the ambitious sequel to the popular Urban Fantasy novel The Blood That Bonds. Nearly twice as long as the first novel, Blood Hunt weaves together the stories of Two, Tori, Rhes and Sarah, along with a large cast of characters both old and new, as they attempt to navigate their way through the difficulties they face.
